Temp mail for X (Twitter)

X asks for a phone number or an email address, and unlike the app-store copy suggests, the email route is still complete: you can register, confirm and post without ever giving X a number. The confirmation code lands in a DustMail inbox in seconds.

How to sign up

  1. Generate an inbox here and copy the address.
  2. On the X sign-up screen tap "Use email instead" under the phone field.
  3. Paste the address, then read the confirmation code from the message that arrives here.
  4. Enter the code, set a password, and skip the phone number prompt that follows it.

What it costs you

Trade-offX sometimes asks an account to verify by phone after the fact, usually when it posts links early or logs in from an unusual network. There is no way to satisfy that challenge with an email address, and an account stuck on it cannot post until a number is added.

Questions

Can I sign up to X without a phone number?

Yes. The phone field is the default, but "Use email instead" sits directly under it and leads to a complete sign-up. X will offer to add a number afterwards; that prompt can be dismissed.

Does X block disposable email domains?

X rejects some well-known throwaway domains at sign-up. If an address is refused, generate a new inbox on a different DustMail domain rather than retrying the same one, or use a custom domain on the Premium plan.

Will I still be able to log in after the inbox expires?

Only from a device that is already logged in. Password resets and new-device confirmations both go to the registered address, so an expired inbox means the session you are in is the last one you get.

What does X email to this address?

The confirmation code at signup, then login alerts, password resets and notification digests you can turn off. If you subscribe to a paid tier, receipts and renewal notices arrive here as well.

Can I change the address on the account afterwards?

Yes, in Settings → Your account → Account information → Email, confirmed with a code sent to the new address. Do it while the temporary inbox still works, because X sometimes also notifies the old address to let you cancel the change.

Will a temporary address limit what the account can do?

Not directly, but a new account is rate-limited on posting, following and messaging until it establishes some history, and an unverifiable email leaves no route to appeal if one of those limits turns into a lock.

What does X email to this inbox after a suspension?

The suspension notice and the appeal thread both go to the registered address. That is the single strongest argument for moving to a permanent mailbox on any account you would want back.
