How to sign up
- Generate an inbox with a long enough duration to cover the whole sign-up, not just the first mail.
- Paste the address into the Steam account creation form and accept the subscriber agreement.
- Open the "New Steam Account" message in this inbox and copy the verification code.
- Enter the code, pick an account name, and sign in on the device you actually plan to use.
What it costs you
Trade-offSteam Guard is the account. Once the inbox expires you cannot sign in from a new computer, cannot reset the password, and cannot trade or use the market. Never buy a game on an account registered to a temporary address.
Questions
Does Steam accept disposable email domains?
Steam accepts most of them, including DustMail, but it applies a trade and market hold to accounts it considers unverified. That hold is separate from email verification and it does not lift just because you confirmed the address.
What is a temporary Steam account actually good for?
Claiming a free demo or a playtest key, joining a friend on a free-to-play title, or looking at a store page that is region locked. Anything that involves money or an inventory needs a permanent address you still control next year.
Can I move Steam Guard to my real email later?
You can change the contact address in Steam settings, but Steam sends the confirmation to the old address first. That only works while the temporary inbox is still alive, so change it in the same session or not at all.
What does Valve email to this address?
The account verification link, Steam Guard codes for every login from a new device, purchase receipts, and refund updates. Steam Guard is the one that matters: it fires far more often than people expect, including after a browser cache clear.
Will my games be lost when the inbox expires?
The library stays attached to the account, not to the mailbox. The risk is being locked out rather than losing purchases: without the email you cannot pass Steam Guard on a new machine and cannot open a support ticket to recover the account.
Does a temporary address affect trading or the Community Market?
Yes. Valve holds trades and market listings for fifteen days unless Steam Guard Mobile Authenticator has been active on the account, and the email address is part of how support verifies ownership if a hold is disputed.
Can I use one inbox for a family member’s account too?
No. Steam refuses a second registration on an address already in use, and sharing one mailbox across accounts means one expiry locks both out at once. Give each account its own inbox.
